Activites
The view from Puncak Lawang
_Apart from relaxing in a hammock or enjoying a swim there are many activites you can do in the Maninjau area. Here are a few ideas:
- Catch a bemo (mini bus) to one of the colorful local markets, where you can buy fresh fruit and local sweet treats. On Sundays the market is in Kota Baru, on Thursdays in Maninjau and on Fridays it’s in Bayua.
- Catch a bus to the top off the 44 Bends and head to Puncak Lawang for great views of the lake, then walk back down.
- Rent a motorbike or bicycle and go around the lake (approx 60km).
Learn to canoe like a local!
_
- Visit one of the local waterfalls.
- Rent a canoe from one of the fisherman and learn to handle a rudderless canoe. (It’s harder than it looks!)
- Walk up to Ana’s Homestay for a banana pancake in the jungle.
- Do some volunteering - – you can spend a few hours at the local orphanage, or go to the high-school and help students with their English conversation.
- Head off with the locals on Sundays for some pig hunting.
Paragliding off the top of the crater wall

- Do a tandem paraglide off the side of the crater (Sundays only, weather permitting).
- Get a traditional massage.
- Buy some freshly caught fish from a fisherman and then BBQ it on the beach
